Hibernal

On a veined leaf morning,
your leopard-spotted eyes

caress, learn my shape
and tales of woodland ways.

Between fall and spring we lie,
a cocoon enfolded.

Eve's spice seeps
through winter's crystal flavors

we, intentions harmless,
struggle to set forth

like trillium's petals thrust
white among three leaves

before we blush and fade to pink
